Chattanooga- Civil War

Gooday Mikey,

How do you do? How is it going where you are fighting? Man our unit is huge. We have about 40,000 troops. 20,000 just left to Virginia, and 20,000 more are coming from Mississippi. I kinda hate that word Mississippi. We used land mines, railroad artillery to fight in the wars or combats. Man our commander has a cool name but he isn’t as cool as I taught. His name is Commander William S. Rosecrans.
It feels horrible being on the Confederate side, because no cares about no one here. At least the union soldiers stick together like a family, unlike us, man no one cares for no one here. You are on your own. We wore grey uniforms. It looked like we just got out of jail and join the Jailors army. You should have seen us man, we looked like prisoners.
We ate bread and cheese. If you were on the highest post, you get really good food such as chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, etc. Man, I am getting hungry. If you were just a soldier, like me, then we only got bread and cheese. We slept outside, underneath the tree. It was so cold during the night, and we didn’t even have proper blankets to sleep. Hell man, some people used there grey coats as jackets to sleep.
I agree about the cause of the battle that I was fighting for. I believe that we are confederates, hell we don’t care for each other, we want what we want, and we took it, Chickamauga, and Lookout Mountain. After Sherman’s men and Hooker’s army took over, we barged in and took it from them. I would definitely change sides, because at least the Union army takes care of each other as a family and doesn’t leave a man behind.
