Elian was a 6 year old boy that was found of the coast of Miami clinging to a tube. Turns out that Elian and his mother and ten other people left Cuba to reach Florida. But on the way there everyone drowned accept for Elian. Elian was found in November of 1999. when Elian was found his uncle that lived in Miami took custody of him. The us government ruled that Elian had to go live back in Cuba with his father. Elian’s relatives ran campaigns for Elian to stay in America but the US government said that he isn’t forced to live in the US. The family made appeals is the case. it went so far that this case reached the Supreme Court and president Clinton. Elian became the most famous refugee. Dozens of Cuban-
